Man caught urinating by Street View sues Google

Lawsuit: Man’s faced blurred, but locals still recognized him

Google’s Street View promises to help viewers explore places around the world through 360-degree street-level imagery. But a man in France claims the application went too far when it caught and posted a digital image of him urinating in his front yard.

The man, who asked to remain anonymous, lives in a village of about 3,000 people in the Maine-et-Loire region. He filed a lawsuit against Google to have the photo removed from the Web, and for $13,300 in damages, Reuters reported.

According to the new report, the man said he thought he was hidden from view as he relived himself, but one of Google’s camera cars still managed to catch him in the act as it passed. His face was blurred out, but the man claims locals in the area still recognized and mocked him.

On its website, Google states that Street View contains imagery from public roads from more than 30 countries that is no different from what may be seen driving or walking down the street.

The company said faces and license plates are automatically blurred out by its software and that users can also request the removal of images that feature inappropriate content.

Reuters reported that Google’s lawyer is pleading that the case should be declared null and void.

There’s no word on whether the man had an explanation for his front yard moment of relaxation or if it was a regular event.
